Explore the Atlantic coast from your campsite in Vendée
Nestled on the Atlantic shore of western France, the Vendée department boasts some of the most iconic seaside resorts of the region. From the 8-km sandy beach at Saint‑Jean‑de‑Monts to the lively atmosphere at Les Sables‑d’Olonne, and the authentic fishing-port charm of Saint‑Gilles‑Croix‑de‑Vie, visitors will find a mix of wide surf-friendly shores, calm family-friendly zones and vibrant promenades.
Back-coast activities, visits and outings in the Vendée hinterland
Beyond the shoreline, the Vendée invites you to explore lush landscapes, historic sites and outdoor adventures. Cycle or stroll through the pine-forested dunes, marshlands and waterways of the interior. History buffs will enjoy medieval castles, such as the Château de Talmont‑Saint‑Hilaire, and wildlife lovers can head to the marshes and nature reserves. For a family day off the coast, a visit to the acclaimed Puy du Fou theme park offers spectacular live shows and immersive entertainment.
Explore further afield – Southern Brittany & Charente-Maritime
If you’re looking to broaden your itinerary beyond the Vendée, consider venturing into neighbouring coastal regions for a change of scenery. Across the border, the southern part of Brittany (Southern) offers dramatic cliffs, small fishing harbours and scenic coastal walks. Meanwhile, the neighbouring Charente‑Maritime department features tranquil islands like Île de Ré and Île d’Oléron, oak-lined forests, oyster-beds and relaxed bike routes along the salt-marshes. These “day-trip” destinations provide a complementary contrast to the Vendée’s shores and extend the discovery of France’s Atlantic coast.
