A bicycle road trip

As the island slowly comes into view, you approach Port-Joinville. Disembarking is always an exciting moment, and you take in the charming storefronts of this picturesque port. Without delay, you head to the bike rental shop to pick up your bicycles and set off on your adventure. You take the coastal paths—28 km of breathtaking scenery awaits you.

Breathtaking views at the Grand Lighthouse

Within the first few kilometers, you’re already captivated by the island’s rugged landscape. Your first stop: the Grand Phare. After climbing the 198 steps, you are left speechless by the view. From 41 meters high, you have a spectacular panoramic vista of the island and the vast ocean beyond. From up here, you spot your next destinations before hopping back on your bikes to continue the journey.

A step back in time at the Old Castle

Between the rocky cliffs, you catch sight of the ruins of a medieval fortress. Carved into the rock, perched on a cliffside, the Vieux Château looks like something out of a fairy tale. You park your bikes and continue on foot to explore the imposing remains. You soak in the history while your children play knights and adventurers. The mystical atmosphere keeps you lingering, but it’s time to move on—your next stop awaits.

Picnic at Port de la Meule

Not far from the castle, you take a break at the charming Port de la Meule. Here, you settle into a peaceful spot for a picnic. Pleasure boats gently sway with the rhythm of the waves. From the bike path, you spotted a golden sandy cove with crystal-clear turquoise water. To reach Plage des Soux, you follow a steep path down to the shore. This wild beach is framed by towering cliffs sculpted by the waves. Like Robinson Crusoe on a deserted island, you embrace the feeling of being castaways on this extraordinary stretch of sand.

A final stop in a Charming Village

Time flies, and it’s already time to head back to the boat. You end your day wandering through the narrow streets of Saint-Sauveur, lined with whitewashed houses. After returning your bikes, you take a moment to browse souvenir shops before heading to the pier. As you board, the children rush to the front of the boat, eager to play captains once more. You sail away slowly, already feeling nostalgic for the island you’re leaving behind.
