What to do in Nantes?

Nantes is the capital of the Loire region, and a vibrant city full of must-see sights.
To discover the city on foot, follow La Ligne Verte – a green line painted across the ground that runs throughout Nantes. The full route is around 12 km long and can easily be walked in a day!
This line will guide you past impressive artworks, modern architecture, beautiful churches, monuments, and plenty of boutiques and cafés with outdoor seating.

Top attractions in Nantes

The most famous landmark in Nantes is the Château des Ducs de Bretagne – the Castle of the Dukes of Brittany. Located right in the city centre, it is a true symbol of Nantes’ heritage.
Inside the castle, you’ll find the Nantes History Museum, and the ramparts offer a breathtaking panoramic view over the city.

Other remarkable buildings include the Notre Dame de Bon Port cathedral and the Saint Nicolas church.

Don’t miss the one-of-a-kind cultural project Les Machines de l’île, located in the city’s former shipyards on the Île de Nantes.
Climb aboard the Great Elephant, a huge moving sculpture 12 metres tall. It moves at 1 to 3 km/h and can carry up to 50 passengers – it even sprays water at bystanders!
In the Galerie des Machines, you can ride other mechanical creatures. The site also features a spectacular marine-themed carousel, the Carrousel des Mondes Marins, standing 25 metres high with three levels.
