Why visiting the Vendée in low season?

In spring, the Vendée offers an ideal climate for seaside holidays away from the crowds. In May and June, the weather is pleasant, the tourist sites are less crowded than during high season, and events abound throughout the region. Whether you’re a fan of sport, music, tradition or gastronomy, you’ll find plenty to enjoy during the low season.

🚣 Vendée Va’a – Les Sables d’Olonne (28 – 31 May)

Plunge into the heart of Polynesian culture with this spectacular race of traditional pirogues. Polynesian village, craft market, cultural and festive events all weekend long.

🏃 Les Foulées du Gois – 15 June

In this race, the only one of its kind in the world, participants challenge the rising tide on the famous submersible causeway of the Passage du Gois. Sports fans take note: registration is over here.

🥇 Ironman des Sables d’Olonne – 22 June

Come and support the triathletes in the very first edition of the full Iron Man in Les Sables d’Olonne, an intense competition over mythical swimming, cycling and running distances.

Music festivals in the Vendée in June and July

🎶 Fête de la Musique – 21 June

All over the Vendée, free concerts are organised in towns and villages to celebrate the arrival of summer with music. More info at the campsite reception.  

🎷 Festival des Sables – Les Sables d’Olonne (26-27-28 June)

New in 2025: the town of Les Sables d’Olonne is organising a music festival by the sea. Check out the programme for this French chanson festival, ticket office opens on 28 February. 

🎸 Festival de Poupet – Saint Malô du Bois (25 June to 18 July)

An hour drive from the campsite, this well-known French festival offers a varied programme ranging from rock to French chanson and electro. 

Events and activities not to be missed 

🎭 Festival La Déferlante de printemps – Saint Jean de Monts (28 May – 1 June)

This cultural festival puts the spotlight on street arts with open-air shows, theatre, circus and artistic performances that will amaze everybody.

🪁 Festival À Tout Vent – Notre-Dame-de-Monts (4 – 6 July)

Marvel at the impressive ballet of kites on the large Plage des Régates. On the embankment, several workshops and evening entertainment all weekend long.   

🚐 Vintage Fun Cup – Noirmoutier (4 – 6 July 2025)

Immerse yourself in the festive world of vanlife for a weekend in a retro atmosphere. On the programme: vintage windsurfing regattas, entertainment, concerts, a market with exhibitors and the not-to-be-missed VW Combi parade.

What to visit in the Vendée during spring?

With mild temperatures and plenty of sunshine, May and June are an ideal time to explore the Vendée coastline, hike in the bocage or cycle along the region’s many cycle paths.

Towns to visit in the Vendée 

⛵️ Stroll down in the streets of Saint Gilles Croix de Vie: 

Its lively historic centre and large beach make it an ideal destination for a family day out away from the campsite. 

🐚 Admire one of the most beautiful bays in the world at Les Sables d’Olonne:

Don’t miss the clock tower, the shell district “L’Île Penotte” and the seaside ice cream parlours in this town that hides many treasures. 

🌀 Discover the old town of La Rochelle 

After an hour drive through the marshes, you’ll fall under the spell of this corsair city rich in history.

Nature excursions in the Vendée 

🌊 Explore the Vendée islands: 

Île d’Yeu and Île de Noirmoutier are perfect destinations for a relaxing day trip. Their picturesque villages and wild coastlines will reveal their charm to you.

🏰 Discover the local heritage:

Take a trip back in time to the Castles of Talmont and Tiffauges, the village of Apremont, the Logis de la Chabotterie and the Historial de la Vendée. 

For nature lovers: explore the paths around Lac du Jaunay, the marshes on the Ile d’Olonne or the Sauveterre forest.

🚴🏼 Cycling on the Vélodyssée : 

The Vélodyssée consists of hundreds of kilometres of cycle paths along the Vendée coast. Between forests and marshes, you won’t see the miles go by. Starting from the campsite, it is possible to go to the beach of Bretignolles-sur-Mer (15 km). 

Family activities in the Vendée in May and June

🦅 Visit the Puy du Fou during the low season: 

Just an hour drive from the campsite, the world’s largest show park opens its doors to you for a day out of time. In May and June, the park is less crowded, ideal to enjoy the historic settings and shows.

Many theme parks welcome you near the campsite: Le Château des Aventuriers, Le Grand Défi, O’Gliss Park… There’s something for everyone! 

🐦 Observe the wildlife in the Poitevin marshes:
